Biography

I set up School Business Partner in 2016, after having worked in the world of education since 2003 as a School Business Professional. We are a small education consultancy specialising in three areas:
  • Effective resource management – helping schools get the best outcomes for young people through the maximising of resources
  • Governance support – training, facilitation and clerking services for school governing bodies
  • Coaching, facilitation, training – for senior leaders in education

Coaching is a distinct offer through our business but also an underpinning philosophy and approach to everything we do.

Our strap line is – ‘learning; growth; success’ which is the vision that we have for education and also for each individual as we support people in exploring and growing into their unique potential.

For over 30 years I have held roles at a middle and senior level in operational management of large and or complex organisations including the civil service, NHS, financial services, and latterly education.

Towards the end of 2015 I made a decision to step out of secure role into consultancy, sensing a need to reach out for a better work-life balance and to take back some control of my life. Around that time a private individual who was training as a coach offered his services on a pro-bono basis. I took him up on his offer using the coaching sessions to plan my move into consultancy. Through doing this I made some important discoveries. Firstly that I loved everything about coaching and secondly that I had for most of my career (unwittingly) been coaching others. Shortly after stepping into consultancy I qualified as a Personal and Business Coach through the University of Chester and Barefoot Coaching.

I now coach mainly, but not exclusively, senior leaders in education. Areas of focus tend to be leadership approach and impact, career management and personal effectiveness.

My initial coach training drew from the various models and theories available from the areas of Behavioural Psychology. Where this serves my clients well, I will often find myself helping clients to explore and use models offered by Transactional Analysis and Neuro Linguistic Planning.

Testimonials

Andrew is very present in all coaching conversations. He is calm, insightful, and supportive. Above all else, it's his presence that stands out when you work with him. I felt he was genuinely actively listening during our calls. He didn't rush to ask questions or dive in with suggestions. He is calm, confident and measured. I felt completely supported and championed during our work together. I would have no hesitation in recommending him.
Jane, solicitor, Manchester
I have found that since working with Andrew in the coaching sessions I can analyse and react to situations differently. It has helped me to realise I am more confident in situations than I first thought and using the techniques I have learnt from Andrew have stopped me worrying unnecessarily. This has also boosted my self-esteem and has made a difference to my decision making, especially in a demanding Senior Leadership role within a primary setting.
Kerry, School Business Leader
I have met with Andrew over several months now, in order to obtain guidance and support with regards to a change in career. I had meet with another leading career coaching company, however found their practices to be rigid and inflexible to my needs, which is why I sought further support and advice. Andrew was able to offer a flexible approach adapting his style and content of his sessions to my particular needs, offering practical content and support. Andrew was able to pinpoint ‘next step’ action plans, which were both suitable and obtainable, through careful and considered questioning techniques and identifying my ‘values’ and the types of job roles that would suit my needs. Andrew was able to help me with actual applications and support me with preparation for interviews, using his extensive knowledge of the recruitment process to identify key elements that should be present in an application and interview protocol. This detailed support subsequently lead me to being offered a suitable position, offered to me through submitted application and interview. It also became clear that Andrew worked on my behalf, outside of our meeting times – offering suggestions through email and phone calls - making suitable recommendations for possible job roles, clearly caring about his client. I have felt fully supported by Andrew, giving me confidence during the difficult process of changing careers, and now feel much more prepared for the process involved. I have no hesitation in recommending Andrew Blench as a career coach.
Nick – Educational Leader, North London
