Biography

I coach individuals and organisations whose work significantly impacts the lives of others, to thrive in complex environments and create a brighter, braver future for themselves and the people they serve.

I have over 20 years experience working in Education as a Teacher. Starting in Primary and moving to Secondary Special Education, my last role was as Deputy Headteacher setting up a new Alternative Provision. As such, I have a real understanding and empathy of what it’s like to work through change, in complex and emotionally challenging, service-driven organisations.

Throughout my career, my aim has always been to empower individuals and enable them, at whatever level, to flourish and achieve what they want to; frequently at the times when they either didn’t think it was possible, didn’t think they knew how to or didn’t dare do anything about it. My coaching style is empathetic yet challenging and I will identify and use approaches that best suit the individual or team to achieve their potential.

I use my passion and experience of outdoor and adventurous activities to help people step out of their comfort zone, manage risk and work together more effectively.

Testimonials

I would like to thank you for the coaching and supervision sessions you have provided to me. When given a group of different coaches to work with I chose you because of your calming and insightful approach. You use a range of techniques in your coaching work but each one of them is subtly incorporated into the session. You appear to listen very closely to your clients before making a considered decision about how best to support their aims. You contract and ask for goals at the start and during each session but each time in a seemingly natural and unforced way. Despite having a knowledge of coaching myself, you always bring deep and fresh insight, supporting me as I explore thoughts which at times have been deeply buried. Thank you again for the work we have done together.

I was facing a big life change, finishing my role as a senior manager in education - a job I had done for 22 years. I had no job to go to and no definite ideas about what to do next.

Meeting Carole felt like my first positive step into the unknown! Carole explained her approach and her coaching philosophy clearly and helpfully before we even met. When we did meet, I found her instantly approachable. Carole gave me space and time to set out my situation. Through careful listening, she helped me to identify some central issues because I was initially unsure even what I needed to think about!

Carole’s non-directive approach meant that she used a variety of techniques during our sessions. I found her skilful in selecting techniques that helped me to move my thinking forward when I got stuck or felt uncertain. I appreciated how, at Carole’s suggestion, a different way of looking something helped me achieve greater clarity of thought.

I left each session with at least one decision made, which felt very positive and pro-active. Now, several months into my new life, I find myself thinking back to my coaching sessions as a reminder of the things Carole helped me to identify as my priorities. In my opinion, this shows the value of the coaching process when undertaken by a skilled practitioner like Carole.

I am Jane Lingard and am the oldest operational female firefighter in West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. I have managerial responsibility as a Watch Manager having previously been successful in promotion processes some years ago. Family commitments and health issues have put my career on hold but now I’m ready again to focus and strive to achieve my personal goals and ambitions and gain further promotion.

I work in a very male dominated environment and face many challenges and barriers in my workplace and feel that I have to prove myself time and time again. Recently, I have participated in several promotion processes and have been unsuccessful which has affected my confidence and cast doubt on my abilities. Having read several self-help books, I recognised the value of a coach and decided to approach WYFRS HR workforce development officer for support in this area. That’s when I was put in touch with Carole who offered six coaching sessions spread over 2 months; I eagerly seized the opportunity.

She spent a lot of time getting to know me and what I wanted to achieve with her assistance as my coach. Together we looked at my work life stages, current achievements, strengths and development areas. We shared work and life experiences whilst discussing various transitional elements that I had been through which helped me turn my negative energy into positive aspirations.

Carole was a good listener, intuitive and an effective questioner. She helped me evaluate my goals, aspirations and working identity and questioned my rationale for wanting promotion. She was insightful and displayed empathy and understanding helping me voice and examine my
pent up emotions and frustrations. Together we explored many avenues which ultimately gave me the tools to help me focus and be better prepared for the next promotion opportunity.

The coaching experience with Carole has been extremely worthwhile. She has helped me learn a great deal about myself and given me the confidence and tools to succeed.

Thank you Carole for assisting in my life journey and helping me get back on track!
