Coach-in-the-Spotlight: Claire Cahill
Confidence & Leadership Coach

Accendo, which is the Latin word for ignite, not only reflects Claire’s brand name but also the personality of this remarkable lady. She is enthusiastic, energetic, inspiring, passionate and funny. The other human side of her that on very rare occasions may emerge (that her clients would never see) would be described as - like a red dragon in a whirlwind.

Claire knew right from deciding upon her options at school that she wanted a career in finance. This resulted in twenty nine years working in a Building Society. During that time, she naturally progressed into management and lead a large team, influencing colleagues both more senior and junior than herself. Throughout her career, Claire always enjoyed unlocking people’s potential. She always had the mantra and emulated amongst her team that you can achieve anything, but you need to work hard and put in the time, if you are to gain your desired results.

Soon after returning to work after her second maternity leave, Claire realised that her current work commitments were no longer compatible with her well-being and so she consequently sought out The Coaching Academy & trained to become a coach. This re-ignited and helped her to regain her own sense of self-worth, self-awareness and realise that her health was actually her greatest wealth. She found herself back amongst like-minded people who supported and encouraged each other.

Claire finds coaching a powerful tool that unlocks the hidden potential both in yourself and others. The thrill of seeing a client’s self-realisation and ‘a-ha’ moment is not only magical but makes you feel like a magician. It demonstrates that through your own listening skills that you’ve then asked the right questions at the right time. Questions that clients may have never even thought of asking themselves.

Claire’s advice for someone considering a career in Coaching would be to continue with your existing job whilst you learn and qualify. Whilst maintaining this, establish a presence as a coach on social media and use your newly acquired coaching skills with existing colleagues around you. Claire coaches’ leaders at all levels with her ideal clients being middle managers who have pressure put on them from all angles. She understands well why people put a mask on at work and find it difficult to open up. She helps clients to reflect upon their own emotions and behaviours with both themselves and towards others around them. Claire uses the ‘Karpman Drama Triangle’ as a tool to help clients raise their self-awareness of this.

What you may not know about Claire is that in addition to her coaching she is the Director of her local radio station Elastic FM, which broadcasts within the North-East Derbyshire area. Why not tune in next time you are in the area! When it comes to comfort food, it will be of no surprise it is the same as when Claire was young. A Cadbury’s fruit and nut chocolate bar or a packet of either ready salted or cheese and onion crisps are her top three.

Claire has a very strong sense of love and pride of her family with her own children inspiring her the most in her life. They view the world and everything in it as an adventure, making the most of everyday being the best they can be, believing anything is possible. A great example of this is that the family have recently returned from Barcelona where one of her sons played football at Camp Nou and the other one was the assistant coach. If she won a week’s holiday it would be to visit her nephew in Dubai with them. Like her sons, her nephew has seized the opportunity to go and do exactly what he really wanted. Dubai also fascinates her with how it has grown and continues to grow as an International destination.

Two great play on words that again link effectively back to Accendo which Claire uses:
Impossible - I'm possible
Opportunity is nowhere - opportunity is now here!
