They all understand the core beliefs and principles behind Coaching and are prepared to practice a lot of self-reflection, self-development and generally take care of themselves. This in turn means that their clients get the very best from them as their Coach.’

Janet Woodjetts' experience and expertise stems from having the opportunity to be both trained and work alongside some of the most highly sought after experts in their field, such as Robbie Steinhouse, Robert Dilts, Judith Delozier, Stephen Gilligan and Tatiana Bachkirova.

Janet described how coaching traces its roots back to therapy and the work of Virginia Satir, Fritz Perls, Eric Berne, Carl Rogers and other therapists and forward thinkers like Tim Gallwey. Despite their very different ways of working, studies found similar powerful questioning techniques benefited their clients. Coaching began to appear as an intervention in the business world around 45 years ago and has continued to develop. And evolve into the many different styles and applications that we see today.

Originally, Janet’s career was as a Retail Operations Manager leading a large team over a wide area before being promoted to Training Manager. She grew the talents of many of her team and then all the organisational staff through an enabling culture: constantly encouraging her managers to find solutions and make their own decisions. This was as a result of her listening and asking them key questions at the right moments during discussions (many of which occurred over the phone as she travelled her assigned area). Janet enjoyed the merits of the ‘growing together’ philosophy of the company with its importance on making a difference with people. It was from this that she made a natural progression to Coaching.

Janet’s advice to people considering a career in Coaching would be to firstly consider how much investment you are prepared to give - both time and financial, and if it will be full time or part of an existing role. Secondly, do your research and give quality time over to this. There are many different training providers, some unregulated online to fully accredited facilitated ones where you submit case studies during the training and gain a certified qualification. Lastly, become a member of one of the professional Coaching Associations. There are different ones out there so find out what they stand for, what they can offer you in terms of membership, and talk to existing coaches regarding which ones they are part of. Janet is a member of a few but would recommend the ‘Association for Coaching’ that she currently gains the most benefit from.

The ideal client for Janet is anyone who understands and has the belief that they have more potential to offer but that doesn’t necessarily know what to do next and how to release this. She finds it a privilege to work with them and be part of their journey seeing clients reconnect with their own strengths. Her brand Corti (Ref 1) reflects this with the image of the boxes releasing their potential rising up and also cleverly the opposite boxes coming together to create a team. Janet loves to work in environments outside of the four walls of an office, in spaces which are open and free, allowing clients the opportunity to process not only their thoughts but use all their senses. Janet’s strong sense of the environment and love of nature is reflected in her ideal location to go on holiday which would be a remote Scottish Island.

Janet’s fun fact you may not know regarding her is also linked with nature: Janet was swimming late one evening across a lake in Finland and to her surprise so was a moose! 

(Ref 1) Family name with a direct lineage that has been traced back to the 1400’s in the Milan region. 1 Each member of every generation in the family since has been given this name including her son and daughter and grandson George and his new baby brother.
