Biography

Born in 1966, I have been fascinated by the value and power of structured one-to-one exchanges between people since my school days. Over the years I have also benefited from support in career and life decisions and dilemmas from a variety of sources; coaching, men’s groups, careers advisors, retreats, voice work and poetry, therapy. My explorations finally came to professional fruition in 2013 when I began training with CTI, which offers among the most rigorous life coach training available today. I completed their Certification process in early 2017, and now have an internationally-recognised accreditation.

Before that, and alongside my coaching today, I have spent almost 30 years working in the arts, heritage, tourism and communication, including 19 years at Chatsworth. Married with two children, I live in Grindleford, in Derbyshire's Peak District, not far from Sheffield.

I am told by clients that they value my capacity to hold, and even celebrate, contradictions and mess, success and failure, pain and joy, the apparently trivial alongside the deep and important. This is a reflection of the journey I am travelling for myself; I have been able to celebrate many successes, breakthroughs and achievements of which I can be very proud. Over the course of my life I have also experienced and worked through issues of abandonment, depression, sexual anxiety and confusion, fear of connection, self-contempt, career breakdown and the eternal challenge of parenting. So I bring all of this lived experience to my coaching, in service to my clients being able to explore whatever is necessary to move forward positively and productively in their own lives

Qualifications

I am a fully certified life coach, having trained with the Co-Active
Training Institute (https://coactive.com/). I combine this with more than 30 years of experience working, and managing others, in the arts, tourism, heritage and charitable sectors, and a lifetime of self-discovery.

CPD

I have recently completed training in Coaching and Trauma with Julia Vaughan Smith and Jenny Rogers. I am in professional supervision with a Life Coach and I have a coach of my own. I am also in regular therapy and a long-standing founder member of a men’s group, both designed to support and enhance my personal and professional life.

Testimonials

“Simon was an extraordinary help during a time of transition. It was made clear that the solution to any problems or challenges would come from me but Simon’s professional ability to draw attention to repeat patterns of thought, enabled me to find new ways of approaching different areas of my life. I found the process of coaching empowering and also enjoyable, a chance to really examine my life’s purpose and where I am now. I couldn’t recommend Simon enough, his approach is both nourishing and challenging in the right places and I’m certain anyone who is a coachee will benefit enormously.”

G, Journalist & TV presenter

“Working with Simon has been a transformative experience for me which has had a very positive impact on my work and my approach to it. He has helped me further my thinking, hone my purpose and get to know myself better. He asks brilliant and challenging questions that go to the heart of the issues I want to explore. His sessions provide a reflective and encouraging space, and working with him in 2020 has also helped me to digest and navigate this difficult year.”
